I'm so excited for a zombie road trip!!!!

I'm so excited about Thursday now... I'm going on a four day vacation! That's what I will have to focus on tomorrow when I babysit for ten hours (yikes!).

So Kerie and I spent the night getting our halloween costumes together.. We're going to be Zombie Hipsters. Completely random... I know... I didn't take pictures of our shirts yet, but it's going to be epic. I can't wait!

I will put up the reference pictures for this make-up design later... I simply need to sleep in a minute, so this is an unfortunately quick post. Also, I am adding veins on her eyebrows and forehead. We are considering putting on a whiter foundation. And playing around with the idea that we're "infected."

Here's is my zombie bite mark. Again, I will put up the reference tutorial when I have a minute! It's really simple. We used latex from Party city, toilet paper, paint from party city, and fake blood.

Basically you put a small rectangular piece of toilet paper on your skin, put the latex around the edges, and then make sure the latex is covering all of the toilet paper. Repeat for as big of a surface as you would like. When you're done you dab brown on and a little green. Afterwards, you cut a piece of latex and pull it up to expose skin. The skin is where you apply the blood. Pretty simple, yet the tutorial is two parts and 20 minutes long. The plus side? The girl is hysterical in it.

Complete! Adventure Time Hat! :)

I have not made a hat in so long that i completely forgot the basic structure... I looked at the Adventure Time Hat and thought it was as easy as pie to make. Completely wrong. That white is deceiving.

What I ended up doing was scraping the entire hat I made yesterday, made a new hat today, and then my previous hat making ability kicked in and I felt like a complete idiot. I wasted so much fabric. *Sigh* SO in between Project Runway and for like an hour after... So maybe an hour and a half I spent actually making the hat the way I should have in the first place. But it's done...

I wanted to make a pattern for the Princess tonight, but I am just going to wing it tomorrow. I give up on pattern making before I sew until I can either get a book or take a class. Maybe ask my good friend Phoebe what her really cool pattern book was called so I can buy that...eventually. I might invest in some muslin since I have to go back and buy pink thread... I thought I had some in my thread bag, but alls I found was a random garden gnome.

The completed result:

Much better, right? I decided not to line it. A) I've never lined a hat and this hat has thrown me through several loops already. B) It's going to be worn in Texas. I decided the least amount of heat generating from this hat the better. C) It doesn't look bad unlined.

I added velcro to the bottom so you can adjust how big it is under your chin. All in all, I'm pretty happy with this accomplishment for the night. I'm excited to work on the princess dress! And I need to brainstorm on how to make the crown.

WIP Adventuretime Halloween Costumes!

So I am currently working on the hat from Adventure time...

I'm still working on trying to make a pattern before I sew and I am coming to realize that I should invest in muslin instead of paper! I have this weird I can't quite visualize how my paper translates into fabric issue right now... I should  probably buy a patterning book and pattern blocks to get with the program! :)

This is how the pattern turned out with my paper... Logically this pattern should work and I've seen a cosplay example with a pattern that appears to be simply this... however I don't think it's three dimensional enough...

I'm thinking about making another piece of fabric to add to the front as shown in this pic to make it more like this... It won't be so apparent that there is random extra fabric after I cut out the right shape!

Tomorrow: watch for the final product!

And also...I will start patterning the Princess costume!!!!!

Due Date: Sunday
Ship Date: Monday! :)

Finally finished my circle skirt!!! :)

So I finally took the time today to finish my circle skirt.

My inspiration came from a skirt at Banana Republic. It reminded me of a safari skirt and I really wanted it but the price GAH! They don't have it online, but it's in the picture on the front page of their website. Hopefully this link works: http://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/outfit.do?cid=48422&oid=OUT23862&mlink=5002,3933950,8&clink=3933950.

Things I promise to work on:

1. My photoshop skills :)
2. BUYING A MANNIKIN FOR MY SIZE!
3. Having a better background.... or a full length mirror that is not in a closet. :)
4. Not believing myself when I think I have a close up of the cool buttons Phoebe Morris sent me from England!!!! and the stitching.
